If you turn south off Sheridan Circle onto 23rd Street, you will cross
the Buffalo Bridge (also called Dumbarton Bridge) with its brooding
bison and masonry heads of Sioux chief Kicking Bear.
This is one of many beautiful bridges suspended over the Rock Creek
riverbed, offering hypnotic views of swaying treetops and serpentine
waters. The calls of Rock Creek Park's songbirds and the coils of its
ivy tendrils all the way up to the bridge's rails provide a perfect
counterpoint to the city.
